Having read hugh johnsons other books like the pocket wine guide I decided to purchase this book. It is fascinating I would advise anyone looking to buy the book should have a basic understanding of wine making in order to understand it. But even for a beginner this book is good as it breaks down everything you need to know about wines, where their from, how their made & miost importantly how to drink them!

As far as I am concerned this is my Bible - I recently upgraded from a very old edition to this latest one. The ratings of the winemakers throughout the world are very reliable and once you add this to the annual HJ Pocket guide you have the best source of current information on the world of wine. Top it off with the Atlas and you don't need anything else.
